Weigh in Day

I lost 0.2 lb today.  I am not proud of that but I am proud of 7 lbs total.  I can put another turquoise stone in my jar.  I have been weighing in my yoga pants so far and today I wore jeans.  I'm sure they are at least a pound heavier.  So I'm not going to let it bother me.  My sister (who by the way is at GOAL) has been giving me great advice and pep talks.  She said it took her about 10 months to lose 40 lbs so that is an average of 4 lbs per month.  She said that often it was in small amounts like 0.4 or 0.6 and they all add up to make pounds lost.  It's not going to come off overnight, this I know for sure.

Back to work and lists

Back to work yesterday and I have to tell you it sucks!  (For those of you who don't know, I am a laboratory technologist and I work at the Veterinary Lab at the College of Vet Med.  It's a fun and interesting job most of the time but it can be crazy busy!)  Just kidding really, I love my job but it was nice to not be there for 6 weeks.  I was getting bored though so it was time.  I wish my ankle was in agreement.  It was very sore and swollen last night.  My sweet husband had supper all ready for me and cleaned up after too.  I was able to ice and elevate my foot for the evening.  Tonight is more of the same I'm afraid.  I am just so tired of this saga.  Can't wait for it to feel better.

Once again I am becoming obsessed with the scale.  I hate it.  My husband is weighing every morning and I am always right behind him.  So here's the thing, between yesterday's weigh in and today it was a 1.5 lb gain.  I have been sticking like glue to the program so I don't know how this can happen.  I also had a hysterectomy a few years ago so it's not PMS!  I really just think a person's body weight just fluctuates that much on a daily basis.  I have to hide the scale again!!  It makes me crazy.

I have been trying to make a new list of why I want to lose weight.  I did some searching and found an awesome list of 70 reasons!  I'm going to post it here.  I'll put my small little list after.

Here's my new 2011 list of reasons I want to lose weight:

1.  to be at a healthy BMI
2.  to be a lifetime member at Weight Watchers
3.  to finally get out of the "plus size" section of clothes (and to be able to buy clothes at Costco!)
4.  to not be afraid to go to the Doctor (mine usually mentions my weight and the fact that I need to lose, so I would love to go and not have that be an issue anymore!)

Really that's about it.  The 70 reasons are great though!  I can relate to so many of them.

Down 2 and My Sister at Goal!!

I am so happy to report I lost 2 lbs this week!  I got my first 5 lb star at Weight Watchers.  I still feel like I have a long way to go but that being said, I didn't gain this weight overnight and I won't lose it overnight!  Right?  Do I hear an "Amen Sistah"?  Speaking of sisters, I am happy to report my sister reached her goal weight at Weight Watchers today.  I am so proud of her!  I wish we went to the same meeting.  I would have loved to have been there to celebrate with her.  Maybe when she gets her lifetime status I will go to her meeting with her.  She is my inspiration and I intend to use all her strategies, tips and advice to reach my goal too.  I am having a really good day today.  Life is good.

Cap 'n Crunch and Anchors

Strange title I know, now let me explain.  I was watching "Live with Regis and Kelly" the other day and Kelly was talking about how fast men lose weight.  Of course I had to listen to what she had to say.  She said she had heard a story of a man that just gave up eating Cap 'n crunch and lost 25 lbs.  I had to laugh at that!  Apparently he was eating a box a day.  Wow.  That's a lot of Cap 'n crunch!  You can read the story HERE  I am happy that Dean has lost 13 lbs but it is frustrating that he is losing it so much faster than me.  Sigh.  Now on to anchors!  At my Weight Watchers meeting a few weeks ago our leader was talking about anchors.  Things that you can use to remind yourself about your weight loss.  A picture or quote on your fridge, or another idea she had was to put marbles or stones in a jar.  One stone or marble for every pound you lose.  If you gain of course you have to take one out.  I bought a cute little jar and some beautiful turquoise glass stones the other night.  I put my 4 stones in it and put it on my window sill in my kitchen.  I like it.  It is a cool little reminder of how I'm doing.  My anchor.

Friday's weigh in

I weighed in on Friday and lost 2 lbs!  I was happy with that but really want that 5 lb star.  Hopefully next week as I'm at 4.8 down now.  I watched Jennifer Hudson on Oprah on Thursday and was really inspired.  She looks amazing!

Loving my veggies!

That's right I am loving my veggies!  I have been eating so much more lately and it feels so good.  I also love that "most" are zero points plus.  Not long ago I discovered brussel sprouts again.  The reason I am enjoying them so much is that I had never eaten them fresh until a month or so ago.  We bought some at Costco and they are to die for!  I have eaten them 2 times this week already.  Squash is another awesome veggie.  I made the un-pasta spaghetti last night and it was so good.  A huge plate of "spaghetti" for zero points.  I steamed the spaghetti squash in the microwave for about 8 minutes, then I scooped it out with a fork.  My sauce was made with sauteed (with a little no-stick spray) onions, garlic, mushrooms, peppers, and zucchini.  I then added some spices and a can of crushed tomatoes.  My vegetable soup was made with sauteed onions, garlic, carrots, zucchini, peppers then add chicken or vegetable stock.  I added spices, chopped cabbage and some crushed tomatoes.  I simmered this for awhile and that's it!  I put it in individual serving containers and froze it for lunches.  I call this "fat lady soup" but it's just the recipe that's been in the Weight Watcher's plan for years.  It's so good!  My favorite dessert lately has been Sugar-free Jello Mousse with Fat Free Cool Whip and fresh raspberries.  It's so delicious and only 3 points plus!  Tonight I cooked some acorn squash.  It was to die for!  I haven't had it in a long time and it was so good.  I baked it in the oven for 25 minutes, cut side down in a small casserole dish with a bit of water.  When it was done I put a small amount of margarine (about a teaspoon divided into two halves) and a tablespoon of pear jam in the halves and then broiled for 5 minutes.  It was very good.  In retrospect I didn't need the margarine and jam but I thought I would try the recipe on the label on the squash.  Looking forward to more adventures with veggies in my future!

Low point cooking

Jello sugar-free mousse, fat free Cool Whip with fresh raspberries

I guess it's been awhile since I have posted here so it's time.  I weighed in last Friday and only lost 0.4 lb.  I was discouraged, I'm not going to lie.  I didn't go and eat away my feelings instead it made me try even harder!  I had a few challenges this week so far but they went well.  I stayed within my points and ate out one night and went to a Superbowl party on Sunday.  I am proud of that.  I'm still bummed that I can't exercise yet but I am trying to be patient.  I really, really want my foot to heal this time for good so I know I need to take it slowly.  I am hoping for a bigger loss this week.  Tonight I made some yummy food that I thought I would share.

Support can be beautiful :-)

I have had some very hungry days this week.  I am struggling at times.  I want chocolate, and I want a lot of chocolate.  I have not gave in though.  I am strong.  I did have a Fiber One 100 calorie bar a few times and that helped.  One thing that has been getting me through the week has been the fact that my husband is on board with me.  In the past he hasn't been and it makes it so much harder to stay on track.  He would bring home all kinds of treats and goodies and I would have to resist.  He has been doing so good.  I'm making healthy meals and he is all over it!  I insisted he weigh himself today (yes I finally caved and asked where the scale was) and it was way more than I thought it would be.  He's right he needs to lose weight.  So we are in this together and it feels so good.  Support can be beautiful :-)
